Video – Pierre Auguste Renoir
Pierre Auguste Renoir was one of the central artists who initiated the Impressionist movement in the 1870s and one of the most respected artists of his time. He was born in Limoges, France in 1841 and became porcelain at the age of 13. After the painter’s apprenticeship began to paint.
He was a student of the Swiss artist Charles Gleyre, where he met the artists Claude Monet, Frédéric Bazille, Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro, and Paul Cezanne, Renoir also became the leader of the Impressionist movement.
Renoir’s early works depict scenes in real life and feature delightful and relaxing themes. He is known as the master of facial expressions. He combined his broken brushstroke skills with bright colors to depict the light and movement of the subject. He likes to draw figures, especially women.
Early in his career, Renoir often sketched along the Seine with Claude Monet. There, they developed the technology and tried the bright colors that became the core of Impressionism. In 1864, Renoir won the prestigious annual Paris Salon exhibition.
His creative inspiration comes from many artists and sports. In the early days, he was deeply influenced by Edouard Manet. He liked Impressionism’s failure to show his work in the salon, and Gustave Courbet’s realism. Later, I came into contact with the works of Rococo masters such as François Boucher, Jean-Onor Fragonard, and Jean-Antoine Watteau in the 18th century; the colorism of Camille Corot and Eugene Delacroix; and Edgar Degas’s sense of movement.
In 1874, Renoir and some friends, including Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Paul Cezanne, and Edgar Degas, exhibited their work in Paris. This exhibition was later Called the first exhibition of Impressionism.
Impressionism is considered a radical breaking the rules of traditional painting, but this movement became popular and sparked other movements, including Neo-Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, and Cubism. As a leading figure in Impressionism, Renoir developed a technique of breaking pen and used bold combinations of pure complementary colors to capture the light and movement of his landscape and character themes.
One of Renoir’s most famous impressionist works is the Bal du moulin de la Galette in 1876, a painting depicting an open-air scene, crowded with people in a popular dancing garden on the Montmartre hill near his home.
Around the 1880s, Renoir visited European countries such as Italy and North Africa. He conducted systematic research on the works of Leonardo da Vinci, Diego Velázquez, Titian, and Peter Paul Rubens. It was this trip to Italy that made Renoir’s style change a lot, becoming more linear and classical, and created “Dance of the Country”, “Dance of the City” and “Dance of Bougival”.
Renoir is talented in art and has created thousands of paintings throughout his life. He is famous for depicting scenes of children, sexy women, flowers, and farmers. After 1890, Renoir re-used delicate techniques to embody his artistic thinking, focusing on immortal nudes and family scenes, including “Grandes Baigneuses” (1887) and “The Girl Before the Piano” (1892).
Renoir inspired many artists, among them Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, and Pablo Picasso.
